Notebook opens as read only from a Windows SharePoint Services document library in OneNote 2003 (830872)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services
- Microsoft Office OneNote 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you click a hyperlink to open a Microsoft Office
OneNote 2003 notebook that is located in a Microsoft Windows SharePoint
Services document library, OneNote 2003 opens the file as a read only copy of
the notebook.CAUSEThis problem occurs because Microsoft Internet Explorer does
not have a defined MIME type for a *.one OneNote 2003 file. Because of this,
Internet Explorer downloads a copy of the file to the Temporary Internet Files
folder for OneNote 2003 to open.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you must create a hyperlink to
the document library where the file resides and then open the file. To open the
file, follow these steps:
- Click the hyperlink to open the document
library.
- Click the drop down arrow next to the notebook's
name.
- Click Edit in Microsoft Office
OneNote.
This will open the notebook in OneNote 2003 in a shared mode.
Any changes that are made to the file will be saved back to file in the
document library. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
