"OneNote could not load the e-mail envelope" error message when you click E-mail in OneNote 2003 (830871)

SYMPTOMS

When you click E-mail on the File menu or you click E-mail on the toolbar in Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, you may receive the following error message:

OneNote could not load the e-mail envelope. This could be caused by a network connection problem or a problem with your Office installation.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because you use Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 as your e-mail editor in Cached Exchange mode. If you have not used Outlook 2003 to connect to your e-mail server, there may not be sufficient information for OneNote 2003 to display the e-mail envelope. This problem may also occur if you run OneNote 2003 before you use Outlook 2003.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, try to start Outlook 2003 and verify that you have correctly connected to the server.

If this does not correct the problem, you may have to use the e-mail features in another Microsoft Office 2003 program before they work in OneNote 2003.

To do so, follow these steps:

Start Microsoft Office Word 2003.
On the File menu, point to Send-to, and then click Mail recipient.

If the e-mail feature does not work in Word 2003 there maybe an e-mail configuration problem in Outlook 2003 or with your e-mail profiles.
