The user is forcibly logged off when a program calls the ExitWindowsEx function even when the computer is locked (830869)

SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, when a program calls the ExitWindowsEx function to log off a user, the user is forcibly logged off, even when the computer is locked and the EWX_FORCE value is not set in the parameters for the ExitWindowsEx function.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you have installed Service Pack 3 for Windows 2000. This problem does not occur on earlier versions of Windows 2000.

When the ExitWindowsEx function is used by a program to log off a user, the EWX_FORCE value can be set to force the computer to log off a user regardless of the state of the logon session. However, when the computer is locked, the user is not logged off even when the EWX_FORCE value is set in the ExitWindowsEx function.

After you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, a user can be logged off a computer by the ExitWindowsEx function even when the computer is locked and the EWX_FORCE value is not set in the ExitWindowsEx function.
