FIX: A Data Alignment Exception Occurs on a MIPS IV FP-Based System (830659)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.1

SYMPTOMS

When you end communication between a distributed component object model (DCOM) client and a remote procedure call (RPC) server on a MIPS IV FP microprocessor-based operating system, a data alignment exception may occur.

Additional attempts to connect to a remote DCOM server do not succeed until you reset the device.

Note This behavior does not occur on MIPS II or MIPS IV (non-FP) microprocessor-based operating systems.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the OLE32/COM module contains code that accesses a data structure element that is not 64-byte aligned. On the MIPS IV FP microprocessor, this unaligned access causes an exception.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix Information

Prerequisites

This fix is supported only when all previously issued fixes for this product have also been installed.

Restart Requirement

After you apply this fix, you must perform a clean operation and then rebuild the platform.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not occur on a debug build of the OLE32/COM components.

When you debug the exception in the original released version of the build, the stack trace indicates that the exception occurred in the following function:

CRpcResolver::ClientBulkUpdateOIDWithPingServer
