Crawl performance and index performance of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 decrease (830601)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services
SYMPTOMSIn your server deployment of Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, you may find that it takes a longer time than expected for SharePoint Portal Server to crawl content that is contained in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Web sites. You experience a decrease in crawl performance and in index performance when the number of documents that are stored in document libraries of one or more Windows SharePoint Services Web sites on the portal site increases. CAUSEThis problem may occur in situations where the document libraries contain a very large number of documents. Windows SharePoint Services generates a query for each document that is to be indexed. In situations where there are a large number of documents contained in document libraries, query performance may decrease, and it takes a longer time than expected for SharePoint Portal Server to crawl and index the documents. For example, you may experience the symptoms that are described earlier in the "Symptoms" section of this article when there are a total of 10 million documents contained in document libraries.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more
information in this article when the information becomes
available.
