FIX: A multimedia stream prompts you for credentials although credentials are not required (830472)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2

SYMPTOMS

When you play a multimedia stream, a dialog box may prompt you to enter your credentials. This behavior may occur on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer that is running Microsoft Windows Media Services.

The dialog box may appear although the multimedia content does not require authentication.

CAUSE

When the NT LAN Manager (NTLM) authentication component is included in the Microsoft Windows CE .NET operating system, the server and the Windows CE .NET media components try to negotiate authentication for digital rights management. During this authentication request, the NTLM authentication component prompts you for credentials although credentials are not set.
