You cannot import a large SDO package on an MCMS 2002 server (830247)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2002
  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 SP1
  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 SP1a

SYMPTOMS

When you use site deployment to export lots of data in Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002, and the Server Data Object (SDO) package size is larger than 680 MB, you cannot import the SDO package on any other MCMS 2002 servers or on the server that you exported the package from. For example, this problem may occur when you use the MCMS 2002 Site Deployment API (SDAPI) scripts to export data.

This problem may occur if either of the following conditions are true or if both the following conditions are true:
  • A template has been changed, and that template is used throughout the Web site.
  • Lots of data and resources have been updated.
Note 680 MB refers to the size of the SDO file. 680 MB does not refer to the size of the raw data that you want to export.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of limitations in the site deployment component. During a site deployment export, all the dependencies for items that are selected for export are also exported. Resources that are inserted in placeholders are exported with the posting. If you use SDAPI scripts to perform the export, site deployment also detects changes to templates, and site deployment exports all the dependencies of the template. These dependencies include postings and resources that are used in the template and in the posting. The maximum size of an SDO file is 680 MB. If the size of the exported resources exceeds 680 MB when the resources are compressed, the SDO file does not contain all the saved data.
