SYMPTOMSWhen you remove all packages from a BITS-enabled Microsoft Windows Server 2003 distribution point (DP), some Web components are not removed. The components that remain are the SMS Distribution Points Pool, the SMS_DP Web extension, and the items that represent the individual DP, such as the SMS_DP_SMSPKGC$ node.
If you remove all packages and you remove the Distribution Point role from the server, the individual DP items are removed, but the upper-level Web components remain. The upper-level Web components that remain are the SMS Distribution Points Pool and the SMS_DP Web extension.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, you must use the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) Manager and manually remove the SMS Distribution Points Pool and the SMS_DP Web extension. To do so, follow these steps. Note The resolution applies to both scenarios that are described in the "Symptoms" section of this article. The resolution removes the components and the items in the components. Remove the SMS Application Pool- Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- In left pane of the IIS Manager Console, expand Application Pool, right-click SMS Distribution Points Pool, and then click Delete.
- When you are prompted with the question Are you sure you want to delete this item?, click Yes.
Remove the SMS_DP Web Extension- Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- In the left pane of the IIS Manager Console, expand Web Service Extensions, right-click SMS_DP, and then click Delete.
- When you are prompted with the question Are you sure you want to delete this item?, click Yes.
