Windows NT or Windows 2000 Clients That Are Logged On Do Not Start Client Components (829874)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you use a push installation to install the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Legacy Client components on a Windows 2000-based or a Windows NT-based client computer, the SMS 2003 client components may not start.CAUSEThis behavior occurs when a user logs on to the client computer while the SMS 2003 client components are installed. The Advertised Programs Monitor (Smsmon32.exe) and the SMS client component launcher (Launch32.exe) must run in the user context. These programs start only in the user-context mode when the user logs on to the client.WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, you must log off and then log back on to the client computer after the SMS 2003 Legacy Client has installed.STATUS
This behavior is by design.
