Package Source Files Cannot Be Updated While a Package Is Being Copied to a Distribution Point (829822)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
SYMPTOMSMicrosoft Systems Management Server 2003 (SMS 2003)
Distribution Manager may distribute the original source directory files two
times if the package source directory is changed while the Distribution Manager
is updating the distribution point or points. CAUSEThis behavior occurs because the Distribution Manager does
not permit any changes to the package while the package is being copied to the
distribution point.
For example, when you create a package and use
the C:\SourceA folder as the source files directory and you select a
distribution point, the SMS 2003 Distribution Manager copies the package files
from the C:\SourceA folder to the distribution point. While the SMS 2003
Distribution Manager copies the package to the distribution point, and you try
to change the source files location for the package from C:\SourceA to
C:\SourceB, the source files location will not be updated. WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, you can change the package
source files directory either before or after the SMS 2003 Distribution Manager
copies the packages but not during the package copy process. STATUS This
behavior is by design.
