Advanced Clients Receive New Package Notifications for Packages That Contain No Content When a Site Is Attached to a Hierarchy (829821)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
SYMPTOMSAfter you attach a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 primary site to a hierarchy, SMS advanced clients that belong to the primary site may receive new package notifications for packages that contain no content. If an SMS client user clicks the notification balloon and then tries to install any of the advertised programs, the SMS client user may receive the following error message: Content not available. CAUSEThis problem occurs because the package is replicated to the child site before any distribution points are defined for the child site.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, disable software distribution on the child site before it is connected to the parent site. Make sure that all package content is updated on the new distribution points before you turn on software distribution.STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
