"Stop" Error Message When You Start Windows XP by Using the /3GB Switch (829364)

SYMPTOMS

If you start Microsoft Windows XP by using the /3GB switch, you may receive a "Stop" error message that is similar to one of the following:
Stop 0x50 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

-or-

Stop 0x0A IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
