The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003
  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Professional
  • Microsoft Visio 2002 Standard

SUMMARY

By default, the AutoRecovery option is not on after you install Microsoft Visio. To help prevent data loss, you may want to turn on the AutoRecovery option.

MORE INFORMATION

To turn on the AutoRecovery option, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Save tab, and then click to select the Save AutoRecovery info every check box.
  3. In the minutes box, type the interval that you want between AutoRecovery save operations, and then click OK.
If the AutoRecovery option is turned on in Visio 2003, a file that is named AutoRecover11.ini is created. The AutoRecover11.ini file contains information about the AutoRecovery process. The AutoRecover11.ini file is created in the following folder:

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Visio

If the AutoRecovery option is turned on in Visio 2002, a file that is named AutoRecover.ini is created. The AutoRecover.ini file contains information about the AutoRecovery process. The AutoRecover.ini file is created in the following folder:

%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Visio

The AutoRecovery file that is created keeps information about the drawing files that are opened by an instance of Visio. If you see a drawing file that is automatically opened by Visio and the drawing file has "[Recovered]" as part of its file name after a system crash, this indicates that the file is recovered by Visio. You can save the recovered file to preserve the unsaved contents that were lost during the application crash or the system crash.
