Outlook 2002 does not automatically send or receive e-mail messages when you start Outlook 2002 (829168)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook 2002 does not automatically send or receive e-mail messages.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Outlook 2002 is not configured to automatically send or receive e-mail messages when you start the program.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, configure Outlook 2002 to automatically send or receive e-mail messages when you start the program. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Start Outlook 2002.
  2. On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive Settings, and then click Define Send/Receive Groups.
  3. Under the When Outlook is Online area, click to select the Schedule an automatic send/receive every x minutes check box, where x is the number of minutes that Microsoft Outlook waits to do a background send or receive when you start the program.
  4. Click Close, and then restart Outlook 2002.

If you do not receive a notification when new e-mail messages arrive, follow these steps:
  • On the Tools menu, click Options. On the Preferences tab, click E-mail Options, and then click to select the Display a notification message when new mail arrives check box.
If you want to turn off the option to automatically send or receive e-mail messages when you start Outlook 2002, use one of the following methods:
  • On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive Settings, and then click Define Send/Receive Groups. Under the When Outlook is Online area, click to clear the Schedule an automatic send/receive every x minutes check box.

  • On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive Settings, and then click Disable Scheduled Send/Receive.
