Cannot Remove a Property from a Very Large Catalog (827196)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Commerce Server 2000

SYMPTOMS

If you configure your Microsoft Commerce Server 2000 catalog to be very large (to have more than 500,000 rows of products), you will receive a timeout error message when you try to modify a property definition or when you try to remove a property. However, you can remove the same property from a smaller catalog (500,000 or fewer rows).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the default timeout limit on the RemoveDefinitionProperty method is not sufficient for the CatalogProducts table trigger to update the LastModified column of a table that contains more than 500,000 rows.

RESOLUTION

The following hotfix sets the timeout limit on the RemoveDefinitionProperty method to infinite. It then disables the trigger on the CatalogProducts table. After the method has completed, the trigger is enabled.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Commerce Server 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.
