SUMMARY

This article discusses why voice recognition programs do not work with Virtual PC.

MORE INFORMATION

The minimum requirement for many personal computer voice recognition programs is a 16-bit sound card. While Virtual PC emulates a 16-bit sound card, the nature of timing under emulation does not permit voice recognition to work correctly. Virtual PC uses the Macintosh computer's microprocessor to do the work of several pieces of personal computer hardware (such as the microprocessor, and the video, the sound, and the network cards).

The emulation technology in Virtual PC tries to balance all the different components to give the best overall performance. However, this may cause minor delays in processing. In most programs, the delay is not noticeable, but in voice recognition programs it causes inaccuracies that make the programs unusable.
