Ethernet adapter is not available in Virtual Switch networking (825373)

SYMPTOMS

When you set up Virtual Switch networking for a virtual machine, you may not see your AirPort Extreme wireless networking card in the list of Ethernet adapters. The only listing that you can see is the word None.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs with Virtual PC for Mac version 6.0, version 6.0.1, and all versions of Virtual PC for Mac version 5. These versions of Virtual PC for Mac are not compatible with the AirPort Extreme wireless network card. In these versions, Virtual Switch is not available as an option for network connections.

Note This behavior does not occur with the original version of the AirPort wireless network card.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, download and install the Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac 6.1 upgrade file. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

This resolution is only for owners of Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 6.0 and version 6.0.1.

If you own Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 5 or later, to resolve this behavior, purchase the Virtual PC for Mac - Upgrade. For more information about how to obtain this upgrade, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

WORKAROUND

If you do not want to install the Virtual PC for Mac 6.1 upgrade, to work around this issue, physically remove the AirPort Extreme wireless networking card from the Mac. After you remove the AirPort Extreme wireless networking card, the Select Ethernet adapter list in Virtual Switch Preferences shows (Default) and Built-in Ethernet as the options that are available.
