"An Unrecoverable Processor Error Has Been Encountered" Error Message When You Start a Windows 2000 Guest PC or a Windows NT 4.0 Guest PC from a Physical Drive (825111)

SYMPTOMS

When you start a Windows 2000 guest PC or a Windows NT 4.0 guest PC from a disk image that is linked to a physical drive on the host PC, you may receive the following error message:
An unrecoverable processor error has been encountered. The PC will reset now.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because you cannot start a Windows 2000 guest PC or a Windows NT 4.0 guest PC from a disk image that is linked to a physical drive on the host PC when you use any of the versions of Virtual PC for Windows that are listed in the "Applies To" section at the beginning of this article. This option is not supported.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade to Virtual PC for Windows version 5.0 or later.
