Your Infrared Data Association Device Is Not Recognized in Virtual PC (824661)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac version 6.1
- Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 6.0
- Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 5.0
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to connect to an Infrared Data Association (IrDA) device, such as a cell phone or a personal digital assistant (PDA), through the COM port settings in the Settings dialog box, Virtual PC and the virtual machine recognize the Infrared port but not the device.CAUSEThis behavior occurs because only the operating system that is installed in the virtual machine can access the device. The virtual machine cannot access the device. The IrDA port on the Macintosh appears in the COM settings for Virtual PC so that various Infrared serial devices can be attached to the Mac and can be accessed by the operating system in a virtual machine. The virtual machine and Virtual PC do not recognize the IrDA devices but recognize only the Infrared port.STATUS
This behavior is by design.
