You Receive Low Memory Warnings When You Run a PC DOS-Based Virtual Machine Under Mac OS 9 (824631)
The information in this article applies to:
- Connectix Virtual PC for Mac version 5.0
SYMPTOMSWhen you use an IBM PC DOS-based virtual machine in Virtual PC 5.0 under Apple Mac OS 9, you receive a low memory warning. CAUSEThe computer may not have sufficient physical memory to run Virtual PC because the PC Memory settings may be set too high for the amount of random access memory (RAM) that is installed on the computer. The default memory setting for a virtual machine that is running a version of DOS is 32 megabytes.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem , follow these steps to lower the PC Memory settings in Virtual PC:
- In Virtual PC, click the Window menu, click Virtual PC List, click the virtual machine that you want to modify, click Settings, and then click PC Memory.
- Reduce the amount of memory that you want to use by adjusting the Total RAM in PC slider. You can adjust the memory as low as 4 megabytes depending on the programs that you plan to run on the PC DOS-based virtual machine. Typically, 16 megabytes is sufficient on a computer that has 64 megabytes of RAM (the minimum RAM that is supported in Virtual PC 5.0 under Mac OS 9).
