"The Application Failed to Initialize Properly (0xc0000142)" Error Message When You Start Virtual PC (824572)

SYMPTOMS
When you start Virtual PC, you may receive the following error message:
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you are using a version of Virtual PC that is earlier than Virtual PC 5.1 and you have Symantec pcAnywhere installed.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, stop the pcAnywhere service, and then start Virtual PC. After you start Virtual PC, you can restart the pcAnywhere service.RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, either remove pcAnywhere, or upgrade to Virtual PC 5.1 or later.
