SYMPTOMS
When you configure your basic input/output system (BIOS) to start the computer with NUM LOCK turned on, you find that when you start your Windows 2000 or your Windows XP guest operating system, NUM LOCK is turned off.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Windows XP and Windows 2000 preserve the NUM LOCK state when the user logs off. The status of the NUM LOCK key is specific to each user. By default, NUM LOCK is turned off.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, turn NUM LOCK on before you log off the guest operating system. The next time the operating system is started, it restores NUM LOCK to the same state.
