The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 98 Second Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Millennium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

Windows Media Player (the player) may not appear in full-screen mode when all the following conditions exist:
  • When you try to play a video in full-screen mode.
  • When you have configured the player for multiple monitors.
  • When the monitors are configured with different screen resolutions.
  • When the player is on a secondary monitor.
Note When you view the video on the primary monitor and you run the player in full-screen mode, the behavior is as expected.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, set all monitors to the same screen resolution and to the same screen refresh rate. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Control Panel, double-click Display.
  2. On the Settings tab, set the screen resolution by moving the slider bar to the setting that you want, and then click the Advanced button. Make sure that you use the same screen resolution setting for all monitors.
  3. Click the Monitor tab, and then select a Screen refresh rate from the list. Click OK two times to apply the changes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

To change the behavior a little (this may not solve the problem), follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Performance tab, click Advanced.
  3. Select the Enable full-screen mode switch, and then click OK.

When this check box is selected, the player will exit full-screen mode and return to its former windowed state.
