The search folder is empty when you create a "Mail from and to specific people" search folder to find e-mail messages in Outlook 2003 (824119)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a Mail from and to specific people search folder to find e-mail messages that were sent to you, you receive the following message in the search folder:

There are no items to show in this view.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design so that e-mail messages that were sent by you are not included in this type of search. Otherwise, e-mail messages that are contained in your Sent Items folder would be included in this type of search folder.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, create a Mail from specific people search folder or a Mail sent directly to me search folder. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Outlook 2003.
  2. Click the e-mail account where you want to create the search folder.
  3. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Search Folder.
  4. In the New Search Folder dialog box, use one of the following steps depending on the type of search folder that you want to create.
    • If you want to create a Mail From Specific People search folder, follow these steps:
      1. Click Mail from specific people, and then click Choose.
      2. In the From box, type your e-mail address.
      3. Click OK to close the Select Names dialog box.
    • If you want to create a Mail Sent Directly To Me search folder, click Mail sent directly to me.
  5. Click OK to close the New Search Folder dialog box.
