Voting buttons appear as question marks in Outlook 2003 (824095)

SYMPTOMS

The following symptoms may occur when you type Unicode characters for Voting button text
  • Question marks (?) appear for each character instead of the characters that you entered before you send the e-mail message.
  • Question marks (?) appear for each character instead of the characters that you entered when the e-mail message is received.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Use voting buttons text box uses the Active Windows codepage for the drop-down menu text. The Active Windows codepage does not support the use of non-ANSI characters. Unicode characters, such as those from the Hiragana or Arabic character sets, appear as question marks (?).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
