  • Microsoft Excel X
  • Microsoft PowerPoint X
  • Microsoft Entourage X

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the program's Settings or Toolbars preference file is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, restore the missing command or commands. To do so, follow these steps.

Note These steps will remove any customizations that you may have made to the program's menus and toolbars. You must re-create your changes after you complete these steps.
  1. Double-click your hard disk icon.
  2. On the Toolbar, click Home.
  3. Double-click the Library folder.
  4. Double-click the Preferences folder.
  5. Double-click the Microsoft folder.
  6. Locate the following files where Program_name is the name of the Office X program that is missing the command, such as Excel Settings (10) and Excel Toolbars (10):
    • Program_name Settings (10)
    • Program_name Toolbars (10)
  7. Hold down CTRL, click the Program_name Settings (10) file, and then click Move to Trash.
  8. Hold down CTRL, click the Program_name Toolbars (10) file, and then click Move to Trash.
  9. Close all open folders.
  10. Start the Office X program that was missing the menu items.
The program will rebuild its menus and restore itself back to its original condition.

In Microsoft Word, the settings for the toolbars and for the menus are in the Normal file. To access these settings, locate Applications/Microsoft Office X/Templates, and then move the Normal file to the trash. The next time that you start Word, the Normal file will be created with the default settings.
