New messages groups may appear in an expanded view instead of in a collapsed view in a subfolder of the Inbox in Outlook 2003 (822972)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
SYMPTOMSIn a subfolder of your Inbox, you may see message groups
displayed in expanded view, instead of in collapsed view as expected.
CAUSE This problem may occur in the following situation:
- In a custom view, you click Conversation
in the Group By box and then you click Received
in the Sort By box.
- In the Expand/ Collapse Groups box, you
click Collapse All Groups.
- You open your Inbox folder and then move
new message groups into the subfolder.
When you view the subfolder, the new groups are displayed in
expanded view instead of in collapsed view as expected. This behavior occurs
because new message groups that are moved into subfolders appear in expanded
view. WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, change the view of your
subfolder to Arrange By Conversation, and then turn off
Always Show Unread and Flagged Messages. To do this, follow
these steps:
- In Outlook, open the subfolder.
- Click View, point to Arrange
By, and then click Conversation.
- On the View menu, point to Expand
/Collapse Groups, and then click to clear the Always Show
Unread and Flagged Messages check box.
