New IP Addresses Are Not Assigned to Remote Clients When You Reconfigure Routing and Remote Access with a New Static Address Pool (822708)

SYMPTOMSWhen you reconfigure your remote access server to specify a different range of IP addresses to assign to remote access clients, those clients are not assigned with IP addresses from the new range when they next connect to the server. Instead, they are assigned IP addresses from the original remote access server configuration.
When you restart the Routing and Remote Access service, this issue is not resolved. However, if you restart the server, the correct IP addresses are then assigned.CAUSEThis issue may occur if all the following conditions are true: - You configure a remote access server to assign IP addresses from a static IP address pool.
-and- - You disable Routing and Remote Access.
-and- - You reconfigure the remote access server to assign IP addresses from a different static IP address pool.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, do not disable Routing and Remote Access to change the static IP address scope. To change the static IP address scope, follow these steps: - Start the Routing and Remote Access utility. To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Routing and Remote Access.
- In the left pane, right-click the remote access server, and then click Properties.
- Click the IP tab, click the static address pool in the Static address pool list, and then click Edit.
- Type the start IP address and the end IP address in the corresponding boxes, and then click OK.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, reapply the same IP address assignments from the new static address pool. This procedure refreshes the IP address range in the Windows registry, and the server then assigns the correct IP addresses to remote access clients. To do this, follow these steps: - Start the Routing and Remote Access utility. To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Routing and Remote Access.
- In the left pane, right-click the remote access server, and then click Properties.
- Click the IP tab, click the static address pool in the Static address pool list, and then click Edit.
- Click OK, click Apply, and then click OK.
