Arabic Characters Are Not Readable After You Switch the Language to Arabic on a Computer That Has MUI Installed (822599)

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you switch the language from English (or any other language that uses Tahoma as its default font) to Arabic on a computer that has Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) installed, Arabic characters are not readable.

CAUSE

The problem occurs because the default font does not change from Tahoma to Microsoft Sans Serif. Arabic characters are not readable in the Tahoma font.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, set the default language to Arabic when you install the multilanguage version of Windows Server 2003. When you set the default language to Arabic, all new users who are created after you install MUI use the Arabic language user interface.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
Click the Appearance tab.
In the Windows and Buttons box, change your color scheme to Windows Classic style, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
