SUMMARY

This article describes the options available on the Paste Options button when you paste data into Microsoft Office OneNote.

MORE INFORMATION

When you paste text into a OneNote document, a Paste Options button appears at the bottom corner of the text as you paste it. With this button, you can specify the formatting of the pasted text. The available options on the Paste Options button include the following:
  • Keep Source Formatting When you paste text, the text retains the formatting of the copied text. This is the default option that is selected when you paste text. For example, if part of the copied text is formatted as bold, the bold format is retained when you paste the text.
  • Match Destination Formatting With this option, the text acquires the additional formatting of the text that you paste into. For example, if the copied text (the source text) is formatted with an underline, the underline is retained. In addition, the pasted text takes on the formatting of the text that you paste into.
  • Keep Text Only With this option, the text is pasted as text only. The text acquires only the formatting of the text that you paste into (the destination text). For example, if the copied text (the source text) is formatted with an underline, the underline is removed. The pasted text takes on the formatting of the destination text.
  • Paste as Picture With this option, the text is pasted as a picture. The text retains the look of the source text. When you paste as a picture, you cannot make changes to the text or to the formatting of the text.
  • Set as Default Paste When you paste text, select a paste option such as Keep Text Only, and then click Set as Default Paste, Keep Text Only becomes the default paste option.
To turn off the Paste Options button, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Editing category, click to clear the Show Paste Options buttons check box.
  3. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
When you paste text after you turn off the Paste Options button, the text is formatted according to the setting of the Set as Default Paste button. For example, if you used the Set as Default Paste option so that you always use the Keep Text Only option, and then you turn off the Paste Options button, text is still pasted as text only.
