FIX: Domain name handling update (822429)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.1

SYMPTOMS

This article describes an update that resolves the following problems that are related to using domain names:
  • If a Domain Name System (DNS) domain suffix for a device ends with a period, the system cannot resolve application DNS requests for host names that are not fully qualified domain names (FQDN).
  • When you connect by using the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) protocol over Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), an erroneous DNS packet is sent if no local domain name suffix has been specified.

Prerequisites

This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you install this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole operating system. To perform a clean building of the operating system, follow these steps:
  1. On the Build menu, click Clean.
  2. On the Build menu, click Build Platform.
You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this update.

Update replacement information

This update does not replace any other updates.

MORE INFORMATION

While the problems that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section may cause erroneous DNS packets, the problems do not affect functionality or performance. However, the problems may be unwanted in environments where each network packet incurs a service fee.
