PRB: After the IPG Client Downloads the Schedule, the Schedule Does Not Appear in the IPG Client (822235)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft TV IPG 1.5

SYMPTOMS

The IPG client provides an interface for the electronic program guide (EPG). Schedule information and channel data for TV content appear in this guide. Sometimes, the call letters for a channel appear in the EPG but no schedule of programs appears for that channel.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the time setting on the set-top box (STB) is not configured for the correct local time. Therefore, the digital addressable controller (DAC) or the Motorola Carousel Server (CS-1000) STB may be passing a time that is not valid.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Disconnect the CS-1000 from the Operations, Maintenance & Provisioning (OM&P) network, turn off the STB, and then turn it on again.
  2. Verify that the time has been reset, and then connect the CS-1000 to the network again.

MORE INFORMATION

  • To determine if the time setting is not valid, use the DiagMon tool. Start DiagMon, and then press SHIFT+S to display the time on the STB. If the time is not valid, you receive the following error message:
    invalid time
  • The DAC is a critical piece of equipment in headends that use the local subscriber management model. The DAC offloads security information and STB management information from the subscriber billing system. It is responsible for managing and provisioning all the headend components and the STBs. The DAC controls all the communication with the STBs. The DAC is also the central information store for services, service providers, channel maps, authorizations, and more. The responsibilities of the DAC include the following:
    • Maintain virtual channel assignments for all services and applications.
    • Send service and application authorizations to the STBs.
    • Process data that the DAC receives from the STBs over the return path.
    • Download the virtual channel map to the STBs.
    • Download messages and control commands to the STBs.
    • Initialize and update the STB configurations.
    • Poll STBs for Pay-Per-View (PPV) billing data.
  • The CS-1000 is a piece of equipment in the headend that presents a virtual file system to the STBs. To do so, the CS-1000 carousel files out-of-band (OOB) over the network. The CS-1000 uses the Motorola proprietary Carousel File System (CFS) protocol.
  • The OM&P is the Ethernet network in a General Instrument (GI) headend that interconnects the pieces of equipment that send and receive the OOB signals.
