OFFXP: Office Shortcut Bar Remains on Top When the Start Menu Has Focus (822170)

SYMPTOMS

If you dock the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar (OSB) above the Taskbar, when you click Start the OSB covers the lower portion of the Start menu and blocks Log Off and Shut Down.

WORKAROUND

You can turn off the Always On Top feature on the Office Shortcut Bar. To do so, follow these steps.

Note These steps require that you have updated your copy of Microsoft Windows XP to Service Pack 1 at a minimum.

  1. Right-click the taskbar, click Taskbar properties, and then click to select the Keep the taskbar on top of other windows check box.
  2. Update your copy of Microsoft Office XP to Service Pack 2.

  3. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Office Shortcut Bar.
  4. Put the Office Shortcut Bar above the taskbar.
  5. Right-click the Office Shortcut Bar, and then click Customize.
  6. Click the View tab, and then click to clear the Always on Top check box.
  7. Click Start to confirm that all Start menu items display as required.
