AWE hardware compatibility test is unsuccessful after you install Windows 2000 SP4 (822140)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP4

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) memory test from the Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Test (HCT) version 9.502 to test the random access memory (RAM) in a Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4)-based computer, the test is unsuccessful (fails) and the following information appears in the test log file:
534.530 :                8192 0000 08:34:51 : Cannot enable SE_LOCK_MEMORY privilege, check the local policy
534.530 :                8192 0000 08:34:51 : Cannot run tests because the current user doesn't have
534.530 :                8192 0000 08:34:51 : the privilege to lock pages in memory.
534.530 :                8192 0000 08:34:51 : The privilege has been enabled by this test for
534.530 :                8192 0000 08:34:51 : the local administrators group but you have to
534.530 :                8192 0000 08:34:51 : log off and log on again to run the test.
534.530 :  +TEST+WARN      : Please log on again as a local administrator and re-run the test.
534.530 :  +VAR+WARN     0 : Please log on again as a local administrator and re-run the test.

CAUSE

This issue occurs the first time that you run the memory verification test on the computer and on all subsequent occasions that you run the memory test until you log off the computer and then log back on.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, run the memory verification test (unsuccessfully), log off the computer, log back on as Administrator, and then rerun the test.
