The following lists the minimum system requirements to run
Office 2003:
CPU
Office 2003 requires a computer Pentium processor with a clock
speed of at least 233 megahertz (MHz). Microsoft recommends a computer with a
Pentium III or faster processor.
Operating System
You can run Office 2003 on the following operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or a later version
- Microsoft Windows XP or a later version
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) or a later
version
Memory
Microsoft recommends that your computer have a minimum of 128 MB
of RAM. An additional 8 MB of RAM are required for each Office 2003 program
that runs at the same time.
Available Hard Disk Space
Office 2003 requires 400 MB of available hard-disk space. Hard
disk requirements vary, depending on your configuration. Custom installation
choices may require more or less hard disk space.
Disk Drives
Office 2003 requires a CD-ROM drive (or compatible DVD-ROM drive)
for installation.
Monitor
A Super VGA monitor with at least 800x600 resolution and 256
colors is required.
Pointing Device
A Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing
device is required.
Other Requirements
Some Office 2003 features have additional requirements. These
additional requirements are listed as follows.
Multimedia
A multimedia computer is required for sound and other multimedia
effects. A hardware-accelerated video card or MMX processor provides improved
graphical rendering performance.
Speech Recognition
Speech recognition requires the following:
- A computer with a Pentium II 400 MHz or faster
processor
- A close-talk microphone
- An audio output device
E-Mail and Internet
Microsoft Exchange Server, Internet Simple Mail Transfer
Protocol/Post Office Protocol (SMTP/POP3), Internet Message Access Protocol
(IMAP4), or MAPI-compliant messaging software is required for e-mail. Microsoft
Exchange Server is required for certain advanced functionality in Microsoft
Outlook. Internet functionality requires either dial-up or broadband Internet
access and payment of a separate fee to a service provider. Local or
long-distance charges may apply.
Remote procedure call (RPC) HTTP
requires Outlook 2003 to be installed on Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1
with the update in Microsoft Knowledge Base article
331320 installed. To use RPC over
HTTP, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 running on Windows Server 2003 is also
required.

Internet Explorer
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or a later version is required for
Microsoft Office InfoPath.
Inking
Certain inking features require that you run Office 2003 on
Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. For more information about Microsoft

Advanced Collaboration Functionality
A Windows Server 2003-based computer running Microsoft Windows
SharePoint Services is required for certain advanced collaboration

Information Rights Management
Information Rights Management features require access to a
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 that is running Windows Rights Management
Services.
Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager
The following are the system requirements to run the Business
Contact Manager add-in for Outlook 2003:
- A computer with a Pentium III 450 MHz or faster processor
- 256 MB of RAM or more
- 190 MB of available hard disk space
Note You
cannot use the Business Contact Manager add-in for Outlook 2003 with
Microsoft Exchange Server.
