A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. To install this hotfix, you must be running Exchange 2000 Server SP3.

To complete the installation of this hotfix, you must stop and then restart the following services:

- Microsoft Exchange IMAP4
- IIS Admin Service
- Microsoft Exchange Management
- Windows Management Instrumentation
822103 Setup prompts you to restart these services automatically during the hotfix installation. If you click
Continue, the services are stopped and restarted. If you click
Abort, the hotfix installation quits. You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

How to Obtain the Latest Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack
After you install this hotfix, the default number of maximum iterations for each appointment expansion is reduced from 100,000 to 10,000. However, you can modify this setting. To do so, edit the following Windows registry subkey.

Value name: MaxIterationsPerExpansion
Value type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 10000 (default)
You can set this registry value to a value from 0 (zero) to an undefined maximum value.
Additionally, the following new registry value is available to enforce a time limit for item expansions:

Value name: MaxSecondsPerExpansion
Value type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 30 (default) 30 seconds
You can set this registry value to a value from 0 (zero) seconds to a maximum value of 300 (5 minutes).
