The ANONYMOUS LOGON User Account Must Have the Bypass Traverse Permission (822010)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

Unless the Anonymous Logon user account has the Bypass Traverse permission set, users may not have full Read Directory access.

RESOLUTION

For anonymous access to work correctly (for example, for the user to have unmapped access), the built-in Anonymous Logon user (to which the anonymous user is automatically mapped) must be given the Bypass Traverse permission.

If the anonymous user is not given the Bypass Traverse permission, the readdir function may return incomplete information for parent directories (".."). This lack of complete information can result in unexpected behavior.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
