Web Page Does Not Load Correctly When You Open a Page That Contains Gzip-Encoded Content (822002)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1, when used with:

    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you browse the Web, you may notice that frames on some Web sites are not displayed correctly, and the HTML code may not be fully rendered.

CAUSE

This issue may occur after you install the Internet Explorer hotfix from the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article

331596 Data Is Truncated When You Download a Gzip-Encoded Excel File in Internet Explorer

and then you perform the following procedure:
  1. Log on to a Web page that contains gzip-encoded content.
  2. Reload the content from the cache.
Note The hotfix that is described in Knowledge Base article 331596 is included in Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4).

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Internet Explorer service pack that contains this hotfix.
