Autodial starts each time a resource is not available in Windows XP (821979)

SYMPTOMS

When you log on to your computer and try to use a resource that is currently not available, Autodial may start.

Note Autodial may start each time you try to use a resource that is currently not available.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service is started automatically when Remote Access Connection Manager is started. The Remote Access Connection Manager service creates a network connection to remote resources.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the latest service pack for Windows XP. After you install the latest service pack, the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service does not automatically start when Remote Access Connection Manager is started. However, the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service starts when any one of the following conditions is true:

You manually start the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service.
Internet Connection Sharing is turned on.
A third-party program starts the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service.
