SUMMARY This article describes the ports that you must open to play
and host a Microsoft Rise of Nations multiplayer game through a firewall, a proxy server,
a router, Network Address Translation (NAT), or Internet Connection Sharing.MORE INFORMATIONMicrosoft Windows firewallWith Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you do not have to manually create port exceptions in the firewall. You may now create exceptions for the program itself. To do this, follow these steps. Note Never open a port for a program that you do not recognize. - Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Click Security Center.
- Click Windows Firewall.
- Click the Exceptions tab.
- Click Add Program.
- Click Browse.
- Locate the game's executable file, and then click Open. By default, the game is installed in one of the following locations:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations\rise.exe C:\Program File\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations\nations.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations\patriots.exe - Click OK two times.

If you are not using the Windows firewall, you may still have to know the ports that are used by the game when you configure your network. Port listing To make sure that these ports are open or to open these
ports, contact your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If you are the administrator of the network, view the documentation that is
provided with your networking software to determine how to open these
ports. Rise of Nations requires that the 34987/UDP DirectPlay port be
open to play a Local Area Network (LAN) or Direct Internet multiplayer
game. In addition to this port, to play through GameSpy Internet
Matchmaking the following ports must be open: 80/TCP
1077/UDP
6500/UDP
6667/TCP
13139/UDP
27900/UDP
28910/UDP
29900/TCP
29910/UDP
29920/TCP To customize the Host and Client ports for your network, follow
these steps:
- Start Rise of Nations.
- Click Options and Profiles.
- Click the Game tab.
Under
Multiplayer; modify the Host Port Number or
the Client Port Number box. - Click OK.
GameSpy Arcade client When you install Rise of Nations you may have also installed the
