Texture and Pattern Fills Are Not Supported in TrapWise 3.5 (820587)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Publisher 2003
  • Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 with Digital Image Pro

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a .pdf file that was created from a Publisher 2003 publication in Creo TrapWise 3.5 (formerly ScenicSoft TrapWise), you may experience one of the following symptoms:
  • You receive the following error message when you try to trap or view a page:
    File caused PostScript error.
    %%[Error: undefinedresult; OffendingCommand: eofill]%%
    -or-
  • The page traps and appears without error, but some objects incorrectly appear with a solid gray fill.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the publication contains objects that contain either a pattern fill or a texture fill that is using one of the built-in textures in Publisher 2003.

Publisher 2003 renders pattern fills and texture fills with 128 x 128 picture elements (pixels), or smaller, as PostScript fills. TrapWise does not support these types of fills.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem you must replace any texture and pattern fills in your publication with a picture fill. Picture fills work well with the TrapWise program.

Use an illustration or photo editing program to create a graphic file that looks similar to the fill that is not working with TrapWise, and then save the file. If you have access to clip art collections, you may be able to locate a pre-existing fill similar to the one that you used in Publisher 2003.

To add a picture fill to an object in Publisher, follow these steps:
  1. Locate an object that contains a texture and pattern fill.
  2. Double-click the object to open the Format Object dialog box.
  3. On the Colors and Lines tab, in the Fill section, click the arrow next to the Color box, and then click Fill Effects on the drop-down menu.
  4. Click the Picture tab.
  5. Click Select Picture.
  6. Locate the folder that contains the graphic that you created.
  7. Select the graphic, and then click Insert.
  8. Click OK.
