Files do not appear when you use Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) to add a network place shortcut to a Windows SharePoint Services Web site (817929)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you use Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning
(WebDAV) to create a network place shortcut to a Microsoft Windows SharePoint
Services Web site, folders in the Web site appear as expected when you open and
view the network place shortcut, but no files are displayed. CAUSE This issue occurs if both of the following conditions are
true:
- You use a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft
Windows XP-based computer as your client.
-and- - You use the client DAV redirector to add a network place
shortcut to the root folder of your Windows SharePoint Services Web site. For
example, you create a shortcut to
http://ServerName.
WebDAV does not enumerate files in the root folder of the Web
site. When you create a Network Place by using WebDAV, a network place shortcut
is created. As a result, the files in the root folder do not appear when you
open and view the network place shortcut. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, do one of the following, as
appropriate to your situation:
- If you are running Windows Server 2003, follow these steps:
- Disable the WebClient service.
- Install a program that uses Web folders. For example,
install Microsoft Office 2003 on the server.
- Delete your original Network Place.
- Create a new Network Place.
- If you are running Windows XP, follow these steps:
- Disable the WebClient service.
- Delete your original Network Place.
- Create a new Network Place.
