PRJ2000: Error " ...Access Violation... " Error Message or Internet Explorer Stops Responding After Opening Project File In-place (817836)
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you open a Microsoft Project 2000 (*.mpp) file in-place
in Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then locate a different Web site or close
Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer stops responding (hangs) or you receive
the following error message: Exception Access Violation,
the memory could not be read. CAUSEThis problem occurs every other time you open a Project 2000
file in-place in Internet Explorer.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, prevent the in-place opening of
Project 2000 (*.mpp) files in Internet Explorer. To do this and allow the .mpp
files to open in Project 2000, follow these steps:
- Right-click Start, and then click
Explore.
- On the Tools menu, click Folder
Options.
- On the File Types tab, click
MPP in the Registered file types list, and
then click Advanced.
- In the Edit File Type dialog box, click to
clear the Browse in same window check box, and then click
OK.
- Click Close to close the Folder
Options dialog box.
