XGEN: Japanese Characters Are Converted to Question Marks in an E-Mail Message When You Use CDO (817830)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you use Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) to a send an e-mail message, some of the characters in the message, specifically Japanese characters, are converted to question marks. For example, the full-width tilde is converted to a question mark.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • Your Exchange 2000 Server computer is configured to use the Japanese ISO-2022-JP character set as its default character set.
  • You use CDO to send your message and you use the cdoSendUsingExchange flag.
In this situation, some of the characters in your message may be converted to question marks.

RESOLUTION

  • Do not use CDO to send your e-mail message.
  • Use the cdoSendUsingPickup flag to send your e-mail message.
