Direct Mailer Service Does Not Recover If Job Delivery Is Interrupted (817817)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 SP1

SYMPTOMS

The Direct Mailer service may send large mail campaigns through Microsoft Exchange Server 2000. A campaign can be created to deliver 200,000 messages. However, it may only deliver about 50,000 messages, and then stop if the database server becomes unavailable. The following error message may be logged in the Event Viewer:
The job {01922D96-A86F-4A27-8D16-0F3CA14A4DB6} was aborted because the DirectMailer database has become unavailable. Job Name: Imb021126. Start Time: *. Finish Time: *. Recipient Count: 58853 of 234639. Error Count: 10.
Note When you use the Commerce Server Manager to view the job status, the job may continue to show a status of running (3) even after the database is back online. To restart the job, run "dmlrun.exe /run:{01922D96-A86F-4A27-8D16-0F3CA14A4DB6}" or stop and then restart the Direct Mailer service. The job then runs until it is finished.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When a Direct Mailer job is not successful, it can be restarted. A failure may occur if the Microsoft SQL Server database server is not available. The job is restarted from the beginning. Duplicate messages are sent to everyone who received a message before the job failed. Preparation provides a job status code. However, while the job is being completed and the mailing list is being processed, this was not being used. As a result, job recovery was working correctly. This behavior has now been addressed, and the job recovery occurs. After it is restarted, the remainder of the job is completed, and the unprocessed messages are delivered.
