SYMPTOMSWhen you use Internet connection sharing to share your high-speed connection between your Xbox console and a computer, you receive the following error message: A PPPoE server was not found. Check these
possible causes:
- A cable is not connected. Check that all cables are
connected correctly.
- You have changed how your Xbox console is connected to the
network. In Network Settings, set PPPoE Configuration to Off.
- Your Internet service is not working. Try again
later.
Note The error message in this article applies to version 4920 of the Xbox Dashboard. If you use a different version of the Xbox Dashboard, you may receive a similar, but different, error message.
To find the version number of the Xbox Dashboard, follow these steps:
- On the Main Menu screen, press the directional pad (D-pad) up or down to select Settings, and then press the A button.
- On the Settings screen, press the D-pad up or down to select System Info, and then press the A button.
- The kernel version and the Dashboard version appear on the System Info screen. For example you may receive the following information on the System Info screen:

THINGS TO TRY- Verify that your Internet service provider (ISP)
uses PPPoE authentication. If your ISP does not use PPPoE authentication, turn PPPoE off in the Network Settings area of the Xbox Dashboard:
- On the Main Menu screen, press the directional pad (D-pad) up or down to select Settings, and then press the A button.
- On the Settings screen, press the D-pad down to select Network Settings, and then press the A button.
- On the Network Settings screen, press the D-pad down to select PPPoE Settings, and then press the A button.
- On the PPPoE Settings screen, press the D-pad up or down to select Configuration, and then press the A button to toggle between the On and Off settings.
- You
may also experience this error if your ISP's PPPoE server is experiencing problems. Wait, and then try to connect again later.
