SYMPTOMS
After you undock your portable computer from a port replicator that has an external monitor attached, the screen resolution does not change back to the resolution that it was set to before you docked the computer. This problem occurs if the screen resolution setting of the external monitor is different from the screen resolution setting of your portable computer.
For example:
- You configure the screen resolution on your undocked portable computer to 1400 x 1050.
- You connect your portable computer to a port replicator that has an external monitor attached, and then you change the external monitor screen resolution to 800 x 600.
- You shut down your portable computer and remove it from the port replicator, and then you restart Windows XP.
When your computer restarts, the screen resolution does not change back to the original setting of 1400 x 1050, but instead uses the 800 x 600 setting that you configured for the external monitor.
