To resolve this issue, use one or more of the following
methods in the order that they appear.
Method 1: Verify the Game CD Is Inserted in the CD-ROM drive
Verify that the game CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM drive. If it is not,
insert the original game CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive, and then restart the
program.
NOTE: Because these Microsoft games are copy-protected programs, you
must insert the game CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive to run the program. This is
also true if you copy the contents of the game CD-ROM to a hard disk, server,
or other storage device and then install the game from this storage device. If
you are using a copied game, use the original game CD-ROM to install or start
the game. If the issue continues to occur, go to the next method.
Method 2: Use a Clean Boot Procedure to Restart the Computer
When you start Windows with a typical startup, several programs
start automatically and run in the background. These programs may include
third-party antivirus programs and system utility programs. When you try to run
one of the games that are listed at the beginning of this article, these
programs may interfere with the game. If this behavior occurs, you can use a
clean boot (clean start) to start your computer before you play a game to
prevent these programs from starting automatically. To restart your computer
using a clean start procedure, follow these steps:
Step 1: Restart Your Computer Using a Clean Start Procedure
- Click Start, and then click
Run.
- In the Open box, type
msconfig, and then click OK.
- In the System Configuration Utility dialog
box, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the
following check boxes:
- Process SYSTEM.INI file
- Process WIN.INI file
- Load Startup Items
- Click the Services tab, click to select
the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click
Disable All.
- Click OK, and then click
Restart.
- Start Combat Flight Simulator.
Step 2: Return Your Computer to a Typical Startup State
- Repeat steps a through b of Step 1.
- In the System Configuration Utility dialog
box, click Normal Startup.
- Click OK, and then click
Restart.
If the issue continues to occur after Step 1, go to the next
method.
Method 3: Log On As a User with Administrative Rights
Log off the computer, and then log on to the computer as a user
with administrative rights. Try to start Combat Flight Simulator. If the issue
continues to occur, go to the next method.
Method 4: Obtain the Windows XP Fix
If you have the fast user switching feature enabled, download and
install the patch file. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=35831NOTE: To install this patch, you must log on to Windows
using an account with administrative rights. If the issue continues to occur,
go to the next method.
Method 5: Obtain Macrovision Update
To download and install this update, visit the following
Macrovision Web site:
http://www.macrovision.com/solutions/software/fix.php3NOTE: To download and install this update, you may have
to be logged on as a user with administrative rights. If the issue continues to
occur, go to the next method.
Method 6: Install and Then Start the Game from a Different CD-ROM Drive or DVD-ROM
Drive
If this issue continues to occur, your CD-ROM drive may not be
able to read the game CD-ROM. Try to install the game from a different CD-ROM
or DVD drive on the same computer or a different computer. If the installation
is successful, and you can start the game in this test, the problem may be that
the original CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive cannot read the game CD-ROM.
