Registry Editor Quits Unexpectedly When You Load a Registry Hive (817448)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to load a registry hive, Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) quits unexpectedly.

Additionally, the following events appear in the Application log of the Event Viewer:

Type:     Error         Event ID: 1000
User:     N/A
Computer: Servername

Description:
Faulting application regedit.exe, version 5.2.3787.0, faulting module
regedit.exe, version 5.2.3787.0, fault address 0x0000c865.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you use keyboard commands to load the registry hive.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the mouse to load the registry hive in Registry Editor.

For example, click Load Hive on the File menu instead of using keyboard commands to open the File menu and select the Load Hive option.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
