Works 7.0: Error Message When You Try to Install Works (817413)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 7.0

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Works 7.0, you may receive the following error message:
To install this product you need to be running Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows XP.
If you are running Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows XP you must have administrative privileges in order to install the product. Please refer to the operating system Help files for information regarding privileges.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if any of the following conditions exist:
  • Your computer is not running a supported operating system for Works 7.0.
  • You are running Microsoft Windows 2000, but you have not yet applied Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later.
  • You did not log on with an administrator or owner account.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Make sure that your operating system meets the minimum system requirements for Works 7.0. The minimum system requirements are on the edge of the Works 7.0 box.   2. If you are using Windows XP or Windows 2000 SP2 or later, make sure that you are logging on to an administrator account for that computer.

    Note if you are a member of a Windows domain, you may have to contact your administrator if you need help.
  3. If you are using Windows 2000, make sure you have installed Service Pack 2 or later for Windows 2000. To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows 2000.
